Rouge Volupte - Yves Saint Laurent

These high-shine, creamy, luxury lipsticks that make you feel like a million dollars were my greatest experiment of 2013/2014! Whilst most people favour these lipsticks for it's gold, embellished luxury in a bullet, I was keen on experimenting with it's almost lip-balm-like-but-creamier formulation. I mean come on, the packaging isn't delivering anything here.

I currently own two of these lipsticks and I've decided upon experimentation that two is all I need for these luxe products that cost well over 35USD (if I remember correctly, I purchased these for 42USD each). I own the colours #29 (Opera Rose, yes that's where the name of my blog came from) and #3 (Ultimate Beige).

Now let's cut to the chase! The formula, as promised, is extremely creamy, nourishing and as far as pigmentation goes, you could wear these colours as a sheer creamy layer or build it up to be completely opaque with no more than 2-3 layers of application! It does have a bit of a fragrance that isn't necessarily overpowering but it may be a tad irritable to those who dislike scented lipsticks or for those who do not like the particular scent of these lipsticks.

Before I go into describing it's longevity, let's talk about how this wears. Imagine a lip balm, you know, with it's thick but extremely nourishing application? I would say these lipsticks feel almost like wearing a lip balm except it's a thinner application that this lipstick provides (not quite as thick and paste-y like lip balms, ya feels?).  However, you'll find that over time, the creaminess of the colour wears off and it becomes more satin than glossy. Nonetheless, I did find that it sits on the lips for a very long time (as a satin finish).

HOWEVER, the level of creaminess that this lipstick provides doesn't fair well for chapped and dry lips, like mine. I find that despite how many lays I apply, it doesn't conceal the vertical lines on the lips and instead, it tends to settle into these lines, making them rather intensely visible. For this very reason, after nearly a whole year of trying really hard to like these lipsticks for all the money that's been spent on it, I really haven't been able to wear it on the daily. Hence, bottom line is, these lipsticks aren't quite my cup of tea.

Let's review the facts about these lipsticks to see whether these luxurious babies are YOUR cup of tea:

  • It is far from being matte - it's a very glossy/creamy to (a while after application) satin finish that this lipstick provides. So if you're one of mattes, this lipstick isn't your friend.
  • Settling into all the wrong places - if you have dry patches of skin, visible vertical lines across your lips or you have chronically dry lips, you may need to consider using a good lip scrub to eliminate dry patches that this lipstick WILL cling onto. This means if you have any skin peeling off your lips, the lipstick will cling onto it as opposed to proving a smooth application (and personally, I'm not a fan of this but hey, if it doesn't bother you, girl this lipstick wont disappoint)
  • Nourishing - if you have dry lips and if you don't have an issue with the point mentioned above, these lipsticks can be amazingly moisturizing. Even if your lipsticks weren't dry and you needed a bit of colour on your lips that simultaneously provides moisture to your lips, you might consider purchasing one of these.
So what's the verdict guys? Is this lipstick for you? Would you spend the money on this line of Yves Saint Laurent lipsticks?

Hello There!

YES, I've finally gotten around to doing something I've been putting off for... let's just say too long.
So, what have I been putting off, you ask?

Girl talk.

Not the kind where I'll be ranting about that monthly disaster of a week, but the kind where I talk about our beloved beautifying products: makeup! My one true love!

Let's just say that along side all the talk I intend to do about makeup, I might pop in an extra miscellaneous thing or two! Hang on, I just realized all this excitement has gotten the better part of me and I've forgotten entirely about politeness and common courtesy!

Hello there reader, friend, fellow makeup lover, my name is Aisha. I'd like to call this my little forum where I share my thoughts and opinions about various makeup products I've experimented with. Let's just say this is an all things beauty blog! This (most likely) is excluding hair, of course. My hair lives it's own life and I tend to leave it alone to do it's own funny little thing. Anyone else share the same sentiments?

Before I get too carried away, let me just say hello and enjoy!

This is indeed what I look like! :D
